Tragic Train Fatality Near Carlisle Claims Rolla Gallagher

Rolla Gallagher a 21 year old man was killed when struck by freight train No 56 while driving a buggy near Ehrman crossing two miles south of Carlisle. The horse and buggy were wrecked and Gallagher dragged about 500 feet before the engine stopped. Coroner and local officials handled the body, funeral services followed at Morris Chapel.

Entertained Sunshine Class Members At Mrs Hutchison

Mrs Frank Hutchison entertained the Sunshine class of the Christian Sunday School Saturday night in honor of Eva Shake who leaves this week for Fairbanks. Thirty members attended an experience meeting with offerings and sharing how they made them. Miss Margaret Windsor conducted a bible drill and Rev Barbie spoke to the children before sherbet and cake refreshments.

Pennsylvania Railroads Eyes Chicago to St Louis Route

Evansville dispatch reports a rumor that the Pennsylvania Railroad has gained control of the Chicago and Eastern Illinois and Evansville and Terre Haute lines, now led by Rock Island and Frisco interests. The C and E I owns the E T H, leased to Rock Island Frisco, with H H Porter of Chicago holding a majority. A purchase would yield a Chicago to St Louis line and new gateway to southern trade.

Local visits extend through midweek in Sullivan region

Mr. and Mrs. James HE Speake traveled to Sullivan Tuesday to remain through today visiting their daughter Mrs Tilghman Ogle and her children. Miss Margaret Windsor came from Oaktown Saturday and stayed until Monday visiting Mr and Mrs J F Alumbaugh.
