Carlisle Dance Sets Record With Brown-Holliman Jazz

In Coffees at Ridgway hall last Thursday a school dance drew a large crowd in Carlisle. The event featured the Brown-Holliman jazz orchestra of Indianapolis which many attendees praised as the best ever heard at a local dance.

Carlisle High School Commencement Honors 25 Graduates

The Carlisle High School commencement was held Thursday night in the auditorium despite rain. Dr. L J Rettger of Terre Haute spoke on Some New Demands, addressing graduates seated with the faculty. Diplomas were presented by Supt C B Macy with Principal Mrs Creanor L Miller assisting. graduates include Carrie Alsop Esther Arnold Bonnie Brentlinger and others plus Frank Colvin Edgar E Asdell Hubert Brentlinger Rufus W Engle Ralph J Land Emmet K LeDune Dennis Winegar Ross R Walters and Bailey Woodward.

Carlisle Home Economics Club organized in Library

At a Library meeting last Wednesday Miss Daisy Williamson assisted by Miss Helen Helms organized The Carlisle Home Economics Club in Sull ivan County. Officers were elected and a constitution adopted with a 25 cent annual membership fee. Meetings set for the first Wednesday monthly at 2:00 pm with talks on cooking canning nursing sanitation and home decoration.

Morris and Howard Tie Nuptials in Sullivar Presby Church

Earl W. Morris son of Mr and Mrs George Morris and Miss Mary Howard daughter of Mrs F M Howard were married last Thursday by Rev Gray of the Presbyterian church in Sullivar. Morris is a Jefferson township farmer and Morris's bride, a Carlisle High School class of 1915 graduate, teaches in Jefferson township. They will live with the groom’s parents for now.

Hackney Purchases Joe Wallace Barber Shop in Carlisle

Paul R. Hackney has bought the Joe Wallace barber shop and will assume ownership at the start of the coming week. He is a traveling representative for Wildroot Chemical Co. of Buffalo but may resign to run the business himself. Paul is a Carlisle native with friends pleased by his venture after a recent rough spell in Carlisle.

An old fashioned birthday party for John Kerkhof’s 18th birthday was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kerkhof Saturday evening. Carlisle Schools Close After Term In 1918 19

The Carlisle grade schools will close the 1918 19 session on Friday May 23 after a successful term.
