Death by own action of Ed Robbins and family tragedy

Ed Robbins 44, a farmer near Sullivan, bought arsenic to kill rats and killed himself Sunday after his wife’s death blanketing the family in grief. He left three children, Nelson 9 Malora 13 and Adan 18, and was a brother-in-law of John W Willis. The second incident reports Napoleon Snyder, 55, of Oak town, shooting his son in law Frank Moore 28 after a dispute, Moore critically wounded and alive five miles south of Carlisle. Moore had been with his wife who had left him for Snyder, and Snyder fired three shots, one striking Moore in the neck and potentially the lung.

George Geatches and family from Dugger attended the funeral of Mary Risher Surday. Attorney Arthur D. Cutler made a business trip to Sullivan on Monday.

Fire destroys Pimento depot and church in wind storm

A Friday afternoon fire leveled the E. and T. H. depot and the old Missionary Baptist church at Pimento. The blaze started near the depot around 12 30 as strong winds blew toward the church. Telegraph operator J M Endicot and Herbert Berline raised the alarm and bucket brigades formed, but saving the station failed while attention shifted to the church. Flying embers set the church roof ablaze and it burned swiftly.

Petition for Levee in Haddon Township Filed

James W. Adams and other land owners filed a petition in Sullivan Circuit Court against Paris Underwood and James R. Pilmer seeking a levee near Busseron Creek to prevent overflow on local farm lands. Arthur D. Cutler represents the petitioners.

Miss Vila Hays Returns After Theater Tour

Miss Vila Hays of Linton returns home after an unexplained absence that drew much comment. She says she traveled with a theatrical company and came back unexpectedly Thursday of last week.

Will Fass Thru Carlisle By Chicago Auto Club Tour

The Chicago Automobile Club with about 300 members will travel from Chicago to Indianapolis passing through Carlisle on April 28. They plan to attend the Auto show and Speedway races in Indianapolis late April to early May. The route includes Lafayette Terre Haute Vincennes Washington and Carlisle with most cars around sixty horsepower. Overnight will be in Terre Haute on April 26 with early morning passage through Carlisle next day.

Tuberculosis Sunday Observance Calls Augmented by State

The state board of health issued circulars promoting Tuberculosis Sunday on April 30. The observance, national in scope, is backed by the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis. Governor Marshall was urged to proclaim a statewide observance.
