Death ends long illness of John R Walker of Haddon

John R Walker a longtime figure in Haddon township died at his Carlisle area home after a three year bed bound illness. He was a Civil War veteran who served at Perryville and Resaca and was wounded at Resaca. He is survived by his wife three children and was laid to rest at Bethlehem cemetery after services at Bethlehem Methodist Church. His twin Lemuel M Walker who once swapped places with him also died, their lives described as inseparable.

Walker Family Obituary and Congressional Remarks

John R. Walker of Haddon township Indiana died March 25 1905 at age 61 after a stroke four years prior. He married Mary I Sproatt in 1869 and Lizzie Berry in 1899. three of their four children survive. The piece notes his church involvement and mentions a pleasant relationship with stepson Roscoe. Also cited are Congressman Chaney’s plans to push public buildings at Bedford and Bloomington and to advocate Wabash river improvements including navigability to Terre Haute to boost regional farming markets.

Volume of state acts to be published by April 23

Assistant secretary of state Frank I Grubbs announced that the upcoming codified acts of the last legislature will be published by April 23. The 900 page volume includes highways eminent domain public offenses drainage and cities and towns with Arabic numbering and subheads rather than marginal notes.
