Carlisle Boy Wins Discussion Contest in Sullivan County
Carlisle high school entrant Carl ise Curtis won county honors in the Sullivan County elimination for the state discussion league contest. He will represent the county at the district meet after narrowly outscoring Miss Jennie Carpenter of Sullivan high. Curtis’s speech on industrial disputes impressed judges and promised a strong showing at the district level.

Third Member of Gang Receives 20 Year Sentence
Frank Kantak of Cleveland Ohio the third member of the youthful gang which robbed and attacked a girl student of the Indiana State Normal on the afternoon and night of Feb 2 was found guilty of automobile banditry and robbery by a jury and sentenced to 20 years in state prison by Judge John P Jeffries Steve Furtyo of Whiting Ind the remaining gangster in the case will be tried this morning before Special Judge William T Gleason A change of venue was requested Kantak defended by J T Walker and R A Werneke Kantak denied involvement but his defense argued mercy due to youth and influence of hardened criminals The jury returned verdict after three and a half hours deliberation with a determinate sentence of 20 years and Kantak was sentenced immediately by Judge Jeffries Terre Haute Star

Born Oct 6 1839 in Sullivan County Indiana she lived her life in Indiana and married Andrew J Brentlinger Jan 28 1863. Survived by three sons Rush E Emil P William J and Charles died in infancy with extensive relatives across several states.
