Mrs. Greeley Risher traveled to Crawfordsville Tuesday to visit relatives, detailing a brief family visit with no reported incidents or activities beyond the trip.

Alumbaugh to Open New Store In Town

Harry T. Alumbaugh has purchased Terrell B. Speake’s grocery stock and will open a modern ladies and gentlemen furnishing store next Monday. He recently returned from St. Louis with a large line of shoes, suits, coats, skirts, and related goods. Speake, who ran the cash grocery, has not announced his plans.

Secured New Principal for Carlisle High School

W T Walker of Oakland City has been secured by the Carlisle School Board to succeed Prof C E Asbury who resigned recently. Walker came from Indiana University where he had been a student and arrived in Carlisle Sunday afternoon to begin work Monday morning at the high school.

Sallee Named Secretary of Indiana Democratic State Committee

A. C. Sallee, former Carlisle boy and brother of Mrs. Arthur D. Cutler, is appointed by Chairman Bernard Korbly to be secretary of the Indiana Democratic state committee. He will assume around April 1 and currently serves as private secretary to Mayor Bell. An advertising man, Sallee previously held posts with the Business Men's Association at Evansville and National Committeeman Taggart, with no active long term political ties noted.

Decorating Carlisle M E Church Interior

The Ladies of the M E Guild hired Charles Tolson to decorate the Carlisle church interior. Tolson and his crew began Monday morning painting ceilings varnishing woodwork and repainting walls. Tolson, from Linton, brings painter Harry Turner formerly of Carlisle.

Fire Scare Near Depot Ends Peacefully

Tuesday afternoon a roof blaze at the Miss Mecie Willis home near the depot triggered a fire alarm. Neighbors fought the fire before the department arrived with the chemical engine. soot from a chimney caused the fire and damage was minimal.

Burris Hamilton Couple United in Sullivan Ceremony

George R. Burris and Miss Ruth Hamilton, two young residents east of town, were married in Sullivan last Thursday. The service, performed by Justice Earl Kennedy, united the couple with Miss Hamilton as the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rant Hamilton and Mr. Burris as the son of Mr. and Mrs John Barris.

Will Move to Sullivan: Phil Griffith Purchase

Phil Griffith who recently sold his residence north of Carlisle to Mrs George Ballew has bought the Frank Bell property on Court street Sullivan for 1500. The Griffith family will move to Sullivan at once to make their future home.

St Patrick’s Day Observed Quietly in Carlisle

Citizens of Carlisle marked St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday by wearing a green ribbon or slip on coats and lapels. The day passed quietly with several locals joining in the celebration.

Horse Runs Away After Fright at Fire Engine Ride

A horse belonging to Ben B. Evans hitched to the rack on the square Tuesday afternoon bolted when frightened by the D. B. Kernhof auto used transport the chemical fire engine to the Willis fire. It ran northeast across the railroad and into the country east of Paxton before being stopped. The buggy remained undamaged and the horse uninjured.

Eslinger Griggs Wedding Reported in Sullivan

Coy Eslinger of Bicknell and Myrtle Griggs of Hymera were married in Sullivan on Monday and visited the bridegroom’s grandfather Edward Eslinger in Carlisle Monday morning. Eslinger has just completed enlistment in the United States Army.

Pleasantville High to Stage The Deacon Play

The senior class of Pleasantville High School plans a Saturday night performance of The Deacon. The play will be held in the K of P hall on April 11.

Coxs filed for divorce in Sullivan circuit court

Bihel Cox has brought suit in Sullivan circuit court against her husband Edgar Cox for divorce. The suit was filed Monday and the plaintiff is represented by attorney Louis Meier.

Federal migratory birds law may include ducks and geese

Sullivan Times reports a denial of a Terre Haute rumor that migratory bird law does not cover ducks and geese. County Clerk Railsback received a letter from General Thomas M. Honan stating the federal rule on migratory birds indeed includes ducks and geese.
