Rufus O Willard one of southern Sullivan County s oldest residents died at his Gill Township home after a long illness He was born January 6 1838 and lived on the Willard place all his life He married Mary Owens in 1860 and leaves several children The funeral was held at the home with Carlisle Lodge No 56 I O O F conducting services Interment followed He was a Republican and a longtime member of the Odd Fellows order The bulletin notes a recent I O O F gathering and the ongoing work of Carlisle Lodge No 50 I O O F in Sullivan County

Mathias Rohland and Mrs Minnie Rohland wed in Sullivan Tuesday. Mrs Mathias, widow of Alexander Rohland who died in a Carlisle mine accident, is a coal miner employed by Carlisle Coal and Clay Company. They plan to live in Carlisle with Chas Mathias and the couple.

An inquiry from Madison township Daviess county asks who pays liquor license fees when an option election is held in an incorporated town. Attorney General Honan says local saloon fees in or near the town go to the town treasury under section 23 of the liquor law. The Proctor act covers election costs. township voters pay from township funds while residents of the town vote but need not cover election expenses.
