Former Carlisle Girl Dies After Influenza Brought on by Pneumonia
Mrs. Marion Jenkins Shepard wife of Paul K Shepard of near Oaktown and a former Carlisle girl died at her home Monday afternoon after influenza developed into double pneumonia. She was born May 30 1883 in Carlisle and died March 11 1919 at age 35 years 9 months 11 days. Survived by husband four children mother and several siblings. Funeral held at Oaktown Christian church with Rev L H Graham officiating. Interment in Oaktown cemetery.

Fire Destroys Miners Shack Near Planing Mill
A fire about five o clock Friday morning destroyed a one room miner shack near the old planing mill. Mark Lester built the shack as a garage and shop. He was at the coal mine when the fire started and was not present. Clothing and valuables, including $56 in currency, were destroyed. Fire department arrived after the blaze had consumed the building.
