Carlisle merchants implement a nationwide credit system via the Red Book. Lloyd C. Winyard of the National Rating League oversees the rollout. The book lists local customers deemed poor payers, alphabetically aiding merchants to assess credit risks and prevent cross-town debt shifting. Sixteen Carlisle firms have adopted the plan.
The Business Men defeated the Professional Men 26 to 14 in a gymnasium game. Cauble and Shepherd started for the Professionals and Loren McDonald for the Business Men, with midgame shifts by Roy McDonald and Cale Shephern as umpires and pitchers. Attendance was modest, but both sides contributed scoring bursts and several players earned chalk marks on the board.
A circular from Oaktown citizens offers a 200 dollar reward for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for placing the partial body of an infant in a wood lot off J H Snapp. No new details have been made public, but the case may lead to justice.
Miss Ruby Martyn, Carlisle High School music teacher, arranges a public exhibit of famous world paintings in the new joint high school building. The show runs Wednesday to Saturday March 25 26 27 28 with admission 10 cents for children and 15 cents for adults, proceeds funding school decorations.
Wilbur Benefiel was in Vincennes Sunday. Mrs. Alice C. Giboney teaching in Newcastle visited relatives here Saturday and Sunday. Phil Griffith and son Milton and George Ballew were in Sullivan Friday.
Egbert F Q O'Haver son of Frank O'Haver of this city died Friday March 6 at Woodmere Hospital near Evansville. Remains were brought home for burial with services at the town cemetery. He was 28 years 5 months and 22 days old and survived by his father and two brothers Clarence North Vernon Indiana and Fred in the U S Navy. The burial followed a prayer by Rev S Reid of the Carlisle M E church.
Sullivan county hunters learn a federal ruling allows killing wild ducks despite a law banning migratory birds. The county clerk was advised by an attorney that the United States Attorney General has ruled hunters may kill ducks.
The court settled and dismissed the W M Simpson Lumber Company suit against Milo Haynes and James R Pilmer for foreclosed mechanics lien. Leona Prather won a line-change levee petition against Joseph Latshaw. The state ex rel Hadden township case against James F Spoatt trustee settled for 43 and dismissed, another Suit against Spoatt settled for 1424. The court found for Julia Colton et al against James M Wortman for rent 500.
