School authorities in Carlisle began drilling another water well after months of supply shortages. Work started last Friday to address repeated dismissals and ensure adequate water for the grade and high school building.
John Blything, a longtime Gill township resident near Carlisle, dies March 5 1921 aged 65. He survived by wife Stella, son Floyd and three daughters, with eight grandchildren and two sisters. Funeral held at home with Rev W L Alexander, Island Cemetery interment. The big Ford and Fordson tractor show drew a large crowd despite morning rain, featuring plowing demonstrations, free dinner for 100, and a packed Star Theatre program on soil fertility seed bed prep and Fordson tractor work.
Township Assessor Roscoe Carrithers and two deputies begin the yearly property assessment in Sullivan county. The assessors and deputies met at County office. Carrithers and deputies C A Atkinson and William Levell started work on March 2 following a March 1 meeting.
The Carlisle Board of Trustees met briefly on Thursday evening at the Cash Store. Only claims were addressed with $336.47 allowed. The treasurer reported a cash balance of $609.55 on March 1.
Infant Raymond Otis Hancock, eight weeks old and son of Mr and Mrs Billa Hancock of near Merom Station, died Saturday. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Rose Chapel Church with burial in Webb Cemetery.
Eight months old Mary Francis Alsman, daughter of Mr and Mrs Tilden Alsman of east of Carlisle, died last Wednesday. Funeral services were held Friday at Bethany Church and burial followed in Bethany cemetery.
The Plainville lodge of Odd Fellows degree team will visit Carlisle next Monday night to exemplify the first degree for Carlisle Lodge No. 50 on seven candidates. An oyster supper will follow. Miss Georgia Willis of DePauw University spent the weekend with her parents, Mr and Mrs French Willis.
