Mrs. May Beers offers a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the murderer of her husband Levi L. Beers. The notice seeks public help and specifies the bounty amount and purpose.
All members of the town board were present at the regular monthly meeting in Kivett's hall. Ordinances Nos. 59 and 60 passed, regulating outhouse location and cleanliness, animal pens, and burial of dead animals, and prohibiting riding on sidewalks and turning horses loose on streets. Constable Johnson to enforce gambling, minor in billiard rooms, and saloon laws. Street Commissioner Ash to address mud at the bank corner crossing. The board also refused to exempt William Jenkins from the curfew law.
Elmer Watson spent Sunday in Oaktown. J S Douthitt of Jefferson township was in Sullivan Monday on business before the board of county commissioners.
On a Saturday poor conditions reduced turnout for a fox drive east of town. About two hundred participants under captains Theo Lisman Will Deiss Lee Robins Tom Carrico and manager Wilton M Howard saw four foxes but the animals slipped away. The roundup at David Shake’s farm near Shake school house yielded no game.
Under Prof Latta guidance at Purdue Joseph Shepherd presided over a Sullivan County Farmers Institute executive committee meeting to set location and topics for two institutes next year. The panel, with Rush L. Davis and Will Gobin from Haddon township, proposed Carlisle and Shelburn as February 1907 sites.
The Carlisle Co operative Telephone Company completed printing 500 new directory cards at the News office on Saturday. It is the first card printed since June 1905 and includes 862 names.
D F Marsh of Frankfort Indiana president of the Indiana Corn Growers Association spoke at the Sullivan county farmers institute in Carlisle February 19 urging education and favorable rental terms. He argued renters gain advantages like no tax burden and emphasized long leases and written contracts to improve soil and stock feeding boosts returns by about 60 percent from grain use.
Former Carlisle resident Chas M Grizzle steps down after eight years as depot agent at Farmersburg succeeding C M Grizzle with Barker of Patoka taking the post. Grizzle served 25 years on the E and T H rail line and will stay in Farmersburg this summer amid warm notes from auditors and local citizens.
May Beers as administrator of Levi L. Beers estate filed suit in Sullivan circuit court against Olive M. Beers Margaret Beers Erma Lois Beers and the Sullivan County Loan and Trust Company to sell the Carlisle property. The Trust Company holds a $1,100 mortgage. Hamet D. Hinkle of Vincennes represents the plaintiff.

B R Davidson transferred to Charles Stegmaier of Wilkes Barre Pa a 128 acre coal and clay tract north of town. Sale price set at 40 dollars per acre totaling 5120 dollars. Abstracts of title are being prepared and the deal will be completed soon.
