Memorial Day Observed in Carlisle and Bethlehem
Carlisle and Bethlehem observed a double Memorial Day with a parade and ceremonies. The Carlisle event drew about 600 people including Civil War veterans, school children, Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, followed by a full program in the public school yard. The day featured Gov. Marshal proclamation reading, Gettysburg Address by Mrs. Alice Giboney, and a Greist address praising the occasion. The flag drill by twenty young girls and veterans decorating the cenotaph closed the program as a success likely to be repeated next year.

Two Deaths in Month Describe Coulson Family Tragedy
Mrs. Sue Coulson, 55, former Carlisle resident, died Friday in Indianapolis after a long illness of consumption. Born in Carlisle, she was the widow of Kent Coulson and previously lived in Sullivan. Her daughter Elizabeth died two weeks earlier from the same disease. survivors include son Dr. Sewall Coulson and daughter Miss Isabelle Coulson, both of Indianapolis.

Funk's Narrow Miss With New Ford Ends in Hilarious Halt
George W. Funk, on a business trip to Sullivan, bought a Ford automobile and, after starting a short ride, the car lurched at a corner and veered toward a telephone pole. The vehicle escaped damage though onlookers teased the driver as the incident drew a crowd. Funk owns another larger car at home in California.

Bowen divorce suit filed in Knox Circuit Court
Mrs. Blanche M. Bowen, through attorney James Wade Emison, seeks a divorce from Wm. H. Bowen in Knox Circuit Court. Married December 6, 1906, they separated around May 1912. She cites cruel and inhuman treatment. They have a 4-year-old son, William Vincent Bowen. Mrs. Bowen is known in Carlisle and is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. W. D. Woods.

Mines in Sullivan County Restart After Short Strike
Coal mines in Sullivan County resumed operations Friday and Saturday as miners returned to work after unemployment since April 1. The Carlisle mine will not restart for several weeks due to necessary day work on the mine.

The Carlisle Concert Band performed in Oaktown on Sunday afternoon, providing music for the memorial services of the Oaktown Lodge of Odd Fellows. John S. Shepherd of Carlisle served as marshal for the procession to the cemetery, with many Carlisle residents attending.
