In Robinson Illinois Friday J F Alumbaugh Salathiel Boone and B R Davidson explored heavy draft horses but found none suitable. They and T E and C E Davidson will build the Alumbaugh and Snyder rock roads north and east of Carlisle. Boone and Alumbaugh hold contracts for the Hackett road and the Davidson Shake road measuring about half a mile and 300 feet, to start August 7.

W. W. Dale Jr. leaves barbering in Cruse Morgan's shop and opens a jewelry and repair shop in the Eliza Davis building to fix watches clocks and jewelry. O J Steffy township trustee and J N Roberts maintain headquarters in the same room. Hud Howard replaces Dale in the barber shop after working in Chicago Terre Haute and Brazil and starting here last Monday.

Electrician James Walters Resigns From Home Telephone
James Walters chief electrician for the Home Telephone company resigns after more than a year of service. He is described as faithful knowledgeable and popular with local youth. Walters and Bert Epperson left Monday for Niagara Falls on a pleasure trip then planned to visit the Portland Exposition per the Linton Record.

Beautiful Blossoms at D B Johnsons Home
Large night blooming cer eas at D B Johnsons home drew many visitors Sunday night. The plant held twenty three perfect blooms and some leaves bore two flowers, a rare sight. Rain and storm earlier in the day barely delayed the buds nearing opening.

Junior Epworth League Ice Cream Social Success
The Junior Epworth League held an ice cream social last Saturday in the school yard with Freelandville band music. They served ice cream cake and lemonade, clearing $19.83 from the event. The second house by George A Ridgway is finished with a third underway. The first home goes to Anna V Ridgway, the second to Wm Curtis of the coal company, and the third will be occupied by Mrs Alice Giboney who will teach in Carlisle schools.

Electric street lights proposed for Carlisle town
The Carlisle Coal and Clay company offers to furnish electric service if the town contracts for at least ten street lights this fall. A petition will circulate next week to gauge citizen support or opposition ahead of the August 3 town trustees meeting. Lightning Strikes Barn on Rissey Farm Near Carlisle
A barn on Herrod Ris ley's Jefferson township farm eight miles east of Carlisle burned after a lightning strike about ten on Sunday morning. A horse, harness, machinery, and 22 tons of hay were within. only the hay was lost. Rissey had no insurance as the policy expired last February and was not renewed.
