Constitutional convention halted by Indiana Supreme Court ruling

Sullivan County clerk David Giles reports the Indiana Supreme Court has ruled the 1917 act to call a January 1918 constitutional convention unconstitutional. The decision, written by Chief Justice Richard K. Erwin, states the legislature lacks inherent power to summon a convention without a people directed directive, ending plans for Indiana's constitutional convention next year. The case now raises questions of possible appeals to the United States Supreme Court.
