Appointed Adjustment Appeal Board Formed in Sullivan County
The County Defense Council created an Adjustment Appeal Board to hear cases of residents resisting war efforts. Members from Sullivan and surrounding towns will hear allegations of failure to buy war stamps and bonds, aid Red Cross and Y M C A, or make patriotic statements. Hearings begin next week at the county courthouse with stenographic records, and unresolved cases go to the Federal district attorney in Indianapolis. Citizens are urged to report nonparticipation or anti war activity to any board member.

Blind peddler held on assault against 73-year-old man
William Pender a 55 year old blind peddler from Vincennes is jailed in Sullivan awaiting a preliminary hearing charged with assault and battery with intent on Russell Wilson 73 of the city. The incident at the Peoples State Bank corner in Carlisle on Wednesday July 10 left Wilson with a knife wound to the ankle. Wilson was treated by a physician and taken home, then to a Terre Haute hospital as the matter sparked local rumors. A preliminary hearing before Justice Caleb Lester in Sullivan was held but postponed due to missing witness testimony.

County Board of Review Adds 1 Million in Personal Property
After a 30 day session the county board of review announced $990,180 in additional personal property was added to tax duplicates. An additional $121,240 of omitted personal property was also placed on the books.
