The firm of Sargent & Smith dissolved by mutual consent on Friday. Mr Sargent bought his partner's one half interest in the business. The two men had opened a shop in the post office room a few months ago and had been enjoying a steady business. Sergent, who now owns the firm, plans to continue operations under his name.
The State Fire Marshal launches a campaign to force underground storage of gasoline in Indiana. Hundreds of orders have been issued with a 40 day compliance window and fines of 10 to 50 dollars per day for violations. The effort stresses safety and cites above ground risks in shops and tailors with prosecutions under the 1913 Fire Marshall law.
Loren E McDonald and family moved to Vincennes with household goods shipped last Thursday. McDonald becomes office manager for Knox County Lumber Company after leaving Carlisle Lumber Company yards. Carlisle friends wish them success and regret their departure from Carlisle.
An organization called The Knights of the Round Table has been launched among boys at No. 7 Pig Tail School in Jefferson township. Meetings are set for Tuesday evenings each week with officers including President Will Arnett Vice President Alvin Kixmiller Secretary Will Robbins and Treasurer Thomas Arnett.
Joseph Hume visited relatives in Vincennes ending with mentions of Lindsy ie Mepic and Stella Willis and Mee Fannie. McCammon spent Gaterday fe Sullivan.
Carlisle White Sox won 4 to 0 over the Linton Nationals at Curtner's Park. Sisson pitched well for Carlisle aided by strong fielding and timely hits including a three-bagger by Floyd Shepherd and timely steals. The Sox used a lineup shuffle in the sixth inning and will face the Bicknell Grays next Sunday at Little Pittsburgh.
Rev. J. R. Benjamin of Canton has been named pastor of the First Christian church for the remainder of the year. He arrived about a month ago and preached four Sundays before his formal employment, and is described as an energetic young man likely to give satisfaction.
The Carlisle Concert Band delivered an excellent weekly concert from the school yard band stand last Thursday night. The group prepares with rehearals to improve performance and show promise for future appearances.
The audience at the concert was smaller than usual due to farmers being unusually busy in the current season.
A new Illinois statute bans eloping couples from marrying outside the state as a measure enacted by the legislature last week. The law aims to curb cross state marriages by prohibiting elopement across borders.
