Carlisle board approves license fee hike for merry go rounds
At a July town meeting the Carlisle Board of Trustees amended the license fee ordinance raising merry go round and skating rink fees to 10 per day and 50 per week. A gutter construction order was issued for Ledgerwood street. The treasurer reported 8210.97 on July 1. Numerous street projects and gas bond payments led to a large claims list including payments to LaRue Dooley Wheeler Hamm and others for street work and gas services.

Flag raising event at Carlisle public school yard
A Sunday afternoon flag raising in Carlisle drew a large crowd from the surrounding area. The ceremony featured old soldiers, local women leading songs, and Rev. W. R. Cady officiating. W. R. Nesbit of Sullivan spoke on patriotism and Red Cross work, followed by Col. Daniel Hines who hoisted the Stars and Stripes to the mast amid three cheers.

Campbell Circular Advertising Company reports Sullivan County had 1396 automobiles registered in Indiana up to July 1 1917. J T Akin was first from the county with a Cadillac and C H Shields last with a Buick license 67146 issued last Saturday. State total registrations reach 167181 with licenses up to 67181 and projected car value at 85 million dollars.

Albert Drug Store Rebuilds After Collapsed Structure
The Albert Drug Store in Freelandville, damaged by a cave in while adding a basement, is being rebuilt with plans to reopen August first. Sheriff John Wolfe had bought the store to convert it into a restaurant but found it lacked a basement and later caused a collapse. No injuries occurred though a laborer was nearby ten minutes before the cave in, and Wolfe estimated damages at $2000.

Peoples State Bank Named as Depository for Liberty Loan Funds
The Peoples State Bank in this city was named as a United States Depository for Liberty Loan funds. It subscribed $20,000 in Liberty Loan bonds and received an allotment of $19,000 for deposits. The appointment was made through the Federal Reserve Bank in St. Louis Missouri.
