Accident on Fourth Records Photographer Injury
D. O. Franklin, a photographer, was struck by a shot from a repaired candle during an accident on Fourth Street. Authorities report the incident and ongoing investigation.
Fourth of July Fireworks Incident Injures Franklin Eye
A group gathered near the Alsop restaurant in Cartishe on the Fourth when a candle rocket fired by youths struck photographer Dr. Franklin in the right eye. He suffered severe pain and may lose sight. Fireworks elsewhere caused no other major injuries while balloons drifted and rain spoiled picnics planned for the day.

Lightning kills four Shetland ponies in Alumbaugh pasture
During a severe storm last week four Shetland ponies owned by J F and Harry T Alumbaugh were struck by lightning while under a tree in their pasture north of the old canning factory. The ponies, valued at about 500 dollars, were killed instantly. A separate Paxton storm Monday struck a barn on the John W Walters farm one mile west of Providence church, causing minor barn damage and loss of ware.
