Long Auto Trip Ends With California Couple in Carlisle
Mr and Mrs Ben Goad of Burbank California arrived in Carlisle Friday and will stay about three months with his sister Mrs S E Dial. The couple traveled by auto from California in nineteen days camping each night and avoiding hotels. They visited Booneville Saturday morning before plans to return to Carlisle.

Plea Guilty to Murder Charge in Local Slaying
Charles E Whitfield pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the killing of Milton Walker, shot May 23 over jealousy and alleged affair with Whitfield's wife. Judge Bridwell sentenced Whitfield to 2 to 21 years in state prison after prosecutors and relatives backed the plea. Walker, a veteran and worker, died the next morning. Whitfield served in the navy and had legal representation by Walter F Wood.

Carlisle Board Changes Health Secretary and Raises Salary
The Carlisle Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Dr. C. E. Whipps as secretary of the board of health and named J. B. Latshaw as his successor. Treasurer Johnson reported a July 1 balance of 3915.20. The salary of John R. Gibbs as street commissioner was raised by five dollars to 7000 annually, and several small town expenses were approved for payment.

Mrs H C Goodman Dies at Paxton
Mrs Magnolie Belle Goodman wife of H C Goodman Paxton died at home Thursday from after effects of influenza. She was 29 years 2 months and 7 days old and survived by her husband four children. Daughter of Hiram Alsop of near Paxton funeral held Saturday at Mt Calvary conducted by Rev S I Long Sullivan.
