In Haddon township 390 voters signed a power of attorney enabling John W Walters William Morris James Whipps Theo Lisman Joseph O Whalen and James F E McConnell to remonstrate under the Nicholson law against any applicant for selling intoxicating liquor at retail in the township. The remonstrance was filed Friday in Sullivan auditor's office against George R Trout who sought a license for Carlisle. Trout did not file his application after the tally showed a 60 vote majority against him.

The state geologist reports a Washington agriculture department recipe using whale oil soap to treat melon lice. Lice first appeared last year, destroying crops, and now attack roots. The solution calls for one pound of soap to six gallons of water to drench root areas.
The supreme court in Knox County reverses a Board of Commissioners decision in Dexter Gardner et al v. Board of Commissioners. Under 1901 acts township trustees must employ an undertaker for indigent veterans and pay up to 30 dollars for public burial. If a trustee hires such an undertaker and acts without fraud, the county must honor the bill and cannot judge the veteran’s funds.
The Bloomfield Democrat reports Sullivan County Democrats will nominate a leading Democrat for Congress next year and push his claim vigorously. Daviess County likely to nominate, with Greene County possibly joining. Miers may withdraw if nominated again.
Rev H C Clippinger of Vincennes presiding elder in Indiana conference M E church is honored by DePauw University with the degree of doctor of divinity. The honor follows his DePauw graduation in 1882 after alumni and senate vote.
A soldiers reunion will be held at Sullivan on July 20 and 21 at the fair ground. Attendees include veterans from the Mexican, Civil, and Spanish wars. The event features automobile and horse races and other entertainments, with the Carlisle military band providing music on both days.

The anti saloon campaign in Hymera ends with the defeat of saloon men. They agree to stop hop joints in Jackson township under penalties. Trials last week fined three men 100 dollars each, one man 10 dollars, another not guilty. Ten pleas of guilty at 25 dollars and costs, with a 200 dollar future fine if any saloon operates again. Sullivan Democrat.
A Colusa California resident touts Electric Bitters after fifteen years of rheumatic pain. He claims a few bottles relieved and cured him and also notes benefits for liver and kidney troubles. Sold for 50 cents with satisfaction guaranteed by Curtner, druggist.
A one story frame building at Merom Station housing a wholesale liquor business rented by George Fausel of Carlisle burned Sunday night around midnight. The fire destroyed the stock and fixtures and the uninsured building owned by Henry French of Gill township. Investigators believe arson as no natural origin explains the blaze.
