The Peoples Bank of Carlisle converts to a state bank with 500000 plus capital stock and begins operations August 1. Stockholders include Ed W Akin and J T Akin among Carlisle farmers and business men. The bank will occupy the former Peoples Bank location and assumes its assets and fixtures.
Dr H S Latshaw prominent Vincennes dentist was found dead in his Second street rooms last Friday with a revolver in hand a towel over the face and a death by his own action attributed to grief over his wife s death years earlier His daughter Hattie and business reverses weighed on him and the obituary notes his long life from Ottawa Illinois to Carlisle Evansville Petersburg and Vincennes detailing his rise in dentistry and family survivors
The Carlisle chapter of the W F M S postponed its gathering at Mrs. S J Lisman home in Oak Town to Friday due to member attendance. The discussion centered on The Philippines with talks by members and a collected $8.65 for missionary work. Refreshments followed. Carlisle attendees listed include Mesdames Risinger Johnson Hooper Cooper Greenfield Pirtle Cutler Lisman Hoover Anderson Bruce and Miss Kivett Edna Johnson Edna Risinger.
A basket meeting is announced for Sunday July 14 at Oakland Christian Church west of Carlisle. Rev Omar Porter will preach and all are invited to attend.
Mrs. G. W. Loomis and niece Miss Edna Wortman of Terre Haute visited Mrs. Nancy Wortman and Frank Ridgway and family on Sunday.
Funeral services were conducted under the auspices of Dios car Lodge No. 47, order of the Brotherhood of BP, for the deceased who was a member. Burial followed at Vincennes city cemetery.
A letter from D. H. Hillman, general passenger agent, announces the end of Sunday popular excursion rates after Monday July 1. Passengers will from then pay the Straight two cent fare.
The ladies group will meet on the lawn between the Willis and McCammon homes next Thursday afternoon July 11. Elder T A Cox, former Carlisle Christian church pastor, will attend and greet friends interested in missions.
Louis Roberts and George MacCainion left Monday for Culver Indiana aboard Lake Maxinkuckee. They attend the Culver Summer Naval School with cadet Aiumbpaugh, and will join Culver Cadets for a Jamestown Exposition naval review.
Friday evening at Palmer and Ridgway hall drew a large Carlisle crowd with attendees from Oaktown and Sullivan. Carlisle Orchestra supplied exceptionally fine music for the youthful gathering.
