State Fair Premiums Announced For September Week

Secretary Chas Downing of the state board of agriculture mails 20000 premium lists for the State Fair to be held September 14 through 18. Racing purses total 9200 dollars, show horses 3547, show cattle 6553, dairy cattle 1311, dairy products 207, sheep 1961, hogs 1458, poultry 1806, art 1256, grains and seeds 437, vegetables 376, fruits 594, flowers 513, bees and honey 50, table luxuries 157. Livestock associations add 3074 in special prizes. Total awards reach 26352 dollars.

Belgian Hare Industry Delights Local Poultry Yard

J W Shake of this place runs a novel Belgian hare business begun in March with about 125 animals in pens of netting. Hares fetch about $4.50 a dozen in Chicago markets as tender meat prized by many. Shake plans larger shipments next year to city markets.
