Dray Business Sold to Combs Who Buys Hotel Jefferson

Charles Milligan and Frank Cox sold their Carlisle dray business to T. A. Combs of Sullivan. Combs now owns the dray operation and the Hotel Jefferson in Washington Indiana. Cox moved to Washington to manage the hotel with Milligan and his family planning to move there soon.

Snow Deepens After Friday Storm Paralyzes Carlisle Area

Several years record snow fell Friday in the Carlisle region with deeper drifts reported near five feet. The snow halted travel until a street crew hired a Carlisle driver and snowplow cleared sidewalks. Sullivan dealers Mr QO. W. Jonsee and Grover Howard visited Carlisle by automobile for a trip aided by snowplow and fresh plows.

Carlisle Fire Department reorganizes into two companies

The Carlisle Fire Department restructured at a recent meeting, creating Company No. 1 and Company No. 2 to operate two new chemical engines. W. T. Alsop was reappointed chief, with Charles Lockhart and A. Y. Kresge leading the two units. Engines arrived last week and are stored in the Griffin warehouse, sharing a pattern with the previously destroyed unit but using a single chemical tank on Ohl avenue.

Farm Sale Postponed After Multiple Bids Decline

The Curry Ferm estate near Helena faces repeated postponements after four failed bids for the farm south of the town. Commissioner Hadden ordered a second advertisement as the 40 year ownership by James L. Glinn and heirs was disputed. Grandchildren Grey and Devarry are involved in settling the estate with Bruner Koch and Andrea Devarry.

Willeans Brothers Se Provide Free Evening Show

The Willeans Brothers ensemble of singers and saxophonists, a Tymera family group, performed free Monday night in Carlisle at the Pilmer & Ridgway hall after local officials insisted on a revenue license for charging admission. The event drew a well attended crowd and a voluntary offering to cover expenses.
