Church Fire Averted At Carlisle Sunday Night
A church fire in Carlisle broke out after evening services when a lighting machine failed. Only janitor Richard South and his son were inside as gasoline fumes filled the building. Firefighters used hand grenades to extinguish the blaze, preventing a worse disaster. The interior suffered extensive damage including the organ, chandeliers, windows, and seats. the town’s large chemical engine arrived late, described as a town ornament.
