New Carlisle Adds Chas B York To Trade Scene
Paxton businessman Chas B York leases the Lisman blacksmith shop from the Orr Brothers and will move his fancy egg poultry and cream buying station to Carlisle around February 1. He also buys Sugar Creek Creamery from M H Howard and will consolidate with his existing business serving hotel buyers. York aims to move his family to Carlisle soon. In other news, Emmett and wife Shake welcome a nine pound son named Julian Reid born January 15.

Haddon Township Farm Bureau Outlines New Year Plan
At a January meeting the Committee of the Haddon Township Farm Bureau laid out a permanent program for production marketing and community welfare for the year. Leaders were named for lime storage hog production soy beans wool and cattle programs with targets such as 750 tons of lime and 100 railroad cars for shipping. Committees were formed to study markets including National Fruit and Vegetable Growers and state cream poultry and egg plans.

Jury Fails to Reach Verdict in Polk Murder Case
In Oaktown former town marshal Lou Polk faced a first degree murder charge for the November 7 shooting of Ray Harrison. After nearly a full day and a half of deliberation the jury stood seven for acquittal and five for guilty and was discharged without a verdict. Witnesses from Oaktown testified as the defense argued provocation and a conspiracy against Polk. The incident began in the Racy restaurant area near the depot and ended in the street near the establishment.

Carlisle Loses to Sullivan in Wabash Valley tilt
The Carlisle High School team fell 21 to 11 to Sullivan High School. Gates was sidelined by an ankle knock in a fast first half where Sullivan led 9–0. Carlisle narrowed the gap in the second half with 11 points to Sullivan’s 12, and Carlisle heads to the Wabash Valley Tournament facing Lawrenceville next Saturday at 8:00 p.m.

Alumbaugh Undergoes Appendicitis Operation
Ed Alumbaugh of this city was taken to Sullivan county hospital Friday of last week where he underwent an appendicitis operation. He is reported to be getting along nicely.

Dr L C McDowell died at 7:45 AM at his Freelandville home from stomach cancer. He was 66, had been bedfast a week, and drove locally until two weeks prior. Funeral at 2 PM Thursday from the McDowell home then Freelandville M E Church with Rev Jones. burial at U B Church Cemetery. Survived by widow Roxie, two children James McDowell of Bicknell and Flora Robbins, a brother Beach Cal., and others. He practiced in Freelandville and area for 44 years.
