Brilliant humorist delights Epworth League in church lecture
Wallace Bruce Amsbury, noted humorist and literary interpreter, entertained at the Methodist church Thursday night as part of the Epworth League lecture course. He performed humorous and poignant pieces including Opie Reid and Riley verses, drew applause after the middle of the program, and hinted at planned visits to Sullivan with a final lecture set for February 15 by Rev. Hay shipped to Winter Haven from Jefferson township
J D Howard supervised loading of ten tons of timothy hay for Winter Haven Florida last Friday. The hay owned by W W Howard of Jefferson township was sent to his son Elmer Howard. Freight runs about nine dollars per ton and Florida markets pay twenty five dollars per ton, with bale sales after arrival yielding about fifteen dollars per bale equivalent to thirty three dollars and seventy five cents per ton.

Coal Mine At Carl Isle Readies Hoisting In Six Weeks
A large workforce is at shaft No 1 of Carl Isle Coal and Clay Co half a mile north of town with coal expected to be mined in about six weeks. The complex includes a tall wooden tipple, engine house, boiler room, blacksmith and carpenter shops, offices, and electrical dynamo. An initial force of about 40 will operate three shifts with plans to expand to 150 miners by next fall as output shifts to distant markets.
