Local Boy Jesse McCarter Killed in Action in France
The Carlisle area mourns as Jesse McCarter, son of Mr. and Mrs. John McCarter, is reported killed in action on October 14 1918 in France. He was 23, born June 1 1895 in Haddon township, educated at Carlisle schools, and enlisted May 21 1918. Survived by his parents a sister Laura and two half brothers Steven Ridgway and Harry Ridgway.

Arrival of the Soldier Boys Returns to Homes
Osborn Hoke and Lee Collinge of Haddon township were discharged at Camp Taylor Saturday and reached home Sunday morning after service since last August. Wagoner William Whitlock of Sullivan County was discharged December 23 1918 after a sequence from Camp Taylor to West Point Ky and Camp Knox with an overseas voyage expected before the armistice.

Sudden Influenza Outbreak Reported in Carlisle
An influenza outbreak appeared in Carlisle and surrounding areas late last week with about 150 cases under physician care, roughly fifty in Carlisle. Most cases are mild and patients are recovering. school attendance fell about fifty percent early this week, though no closures are in place yet. The Health Board monitors the situation and may close schools or public venues if conditions worsen.

Two Aeroplanes Pass Over Near Carlisle
Two aeroplanes passed overhead four miles west of Carlisle on Saturday around noon headed south. The planes flew from Detroit to Texas and were in Indianapolis on Friday. Lieuts. B M Jones and E H Hill piloted one craft while Lieuts J N Wagener and Lawson Henry piloted the other. The first scheduled stop after Carlisle was Belleville Aviation Field near St Louis.
