Pleasantville Teacher In Trouble Over Assault Charge
Charles Hanna the Pleasantville school principal faces assault and battery charges involving Bruce Hilderbrand, fourteen, son of George Hilderbrand. Hanna furnished bond for appearance in Squire Everhart's court in the city next Saturday afternoon.

Charles T. Akin Predicted Winner In County Contest
The Friends of Senator C. T. Akin claim he has defeated C. D. Hunt in Sullivan County and will win by a substantial majority after vote counting. Akin, born 1848 in Charleston, rose from merchant duties to Indiana House service and later the State Senate, where he serves without opposition.

History of early Carlisle education notes a 1823 log school house on the current Hoover property with sled-rolled logs and a fireplace. Teachers included James Gray 1813, James Rogers 1824, Job M Baher 1825, James Garrett 1826. later a frame school housed Miss Laura Goodin and Prof. Hugh Ross who also practiced law.
