Indiana Railroad to Replace Oil Headlights on Most Locomotives
The State Railroad Commissioner ordered the removal of oil lights from all freight and passenger locomotives in Indiana except yard switching engines. One third of lamps must be removed by July 1, another third by next January, and the remainder by July 1, 1911. Substitution of a 1500 candle power lamp is allowed but the type—oil acetylene or electric—is not specified. Light should be brighter to aid the public, with electric or acetylene expected for new lamps.
