Harry Hubble came back to Merom Sunday after a week visiting relatives. Also a note invites readers to shop at Akin's store for clothing dry goods boots shoes and groceries in 1907.
The Thursday Club hosted husbands in Pilmer and Ridgway hall with pink and white décor, lanterns, and a full evening of games including spelling, crokinole, and charades. A special table shaped like a T served pink rose ice, macaroons, and coffee as toasts were offered and cigars circulated among the fifty or so attendees. Notable guests included Harry T. Alumbaugh, L. J. Kixmiller, Ed W. Akin Jr, Arthur D. Cutler, T. F. Willis, C. A. Griffin, C. M. Orr, Ben B. Evans, Dr. I. J. Keys, Frank Warner, P. F. Hooper, Geo. A. Ridgway, Jim McConnell, T. J. Deeble and George A. Arnold.
The late William Schaffer of Sandborn filed his handwritten will and a codicil dated 1903 for probate in Knox circuit court. The document names heirs Joseph W. Schaffer George D. Schaffer Nora Hildebrand and Lee T. Schaffer and appoints three sons as joint executors. The will bequeaths 2000 to granddaughter Cora Cecil Cauble with guardianship to Joseph Schaffer, and after disputes 500 may be diverted to defend the estate. The codicil increases Cora Cauble's bequest to 4000 and adds 100 to each grandchild William Robbins Ida Nora and Roy Robbins.
Sullivan County Loan and Trust Company as guardian of Elizabeth Whipps filed Dec 6 1906 suit against John and Myra Whipps to set aside a 1903 deed of 40 acres east of Carlisle. The case settled Monday with Elizabeth found sane at deed time and proceeding deemed voluntary. John to pay life interest of $1 040. judgment plus $9 50 costs paid.
The newly elected officers for Carlisle lodge No. 50 and Morse Encampment No. 139 I.C.O.F. were installed on Monday and Friday nights respectively. Last Saturday night at the old creamery building Carlisle third team beat Shepherd school five by 23 to 17. Carlisle lineup included Louis Roberts Ralph Mickle forwards Jay Hicks center Clarence Ferguson Albert Lester guards. Shepherd fields E Latshaw F Parsons forwards J Marquett center Wolfe Phegley guards.
Hiram Wiggs of Shelburn visited relatives here from Friday through Monday, staying with family members during the weekend.
The United States forest service reports Indiana produced 352 362 000 feet of lumber in 1905 and led the nation in hickory and walnut output. White oak 121 091 000 feet and red oak 54 725 000 feet followed, with notable yields in maple yellow poplar beech elm ash and other species. Indiana’s 15 138 000 feet of hickory accounted for 15.8 percent of the national total.
