At a special town board meeting in the First National Bank directors room the annual treasurer report was read and approved. Edward Eslinger faced a salary reduction from 30.00 monthly total to 10.00 as marshal and 20.00 as street commissioner, with street work halted for the winter.
County Auditor Win S. Bicknell completes the December settlement and apportions November taxes among Jefferson, Haddon, Carlisle, Gill, and Merom townships. Allocations include township, tuition, special school, road, park, and corporate taxes with specific dollar amounts for each category.
Modern Woodmen of America Pleasantville Camp No. 4929 announces its elected officers for the new term. V. C. Mercer D. Collins W. A. Willis Wagner Banker F. M. Wells Clerk W. L. Long Escort E. L. Wells Trustee G. N. Howard.
The Pleasantville Telephone Company elected officers for the ensuing year. President A. M. Corbin, Vice President Henry Clark, Treasurer W. Bishop, Recording Secretary D. R. Newkirk, Financial Secretary B. S. Booker, Trustee James H. Boon, Holdover Trustees James Cleveland and W. L. Long.
Pastor Rev S Reid hosts revival meetings at Paxton M E Church with assistance from Rev Ephraim Malone of Vincennes. The series opened on Sunday and continues at the Paxton church.
Carlisle tailor Oscar H. Minor files for divorce from Madge C. Minor in Sullivan County Circuit Court alleging desertion. Co respondent named is Omar Fairhurst.
Joseph R Watson known as Uncle Joe died at Good Samaritan hospital Vincennes after weeks of paralysis following a stroke on November 30 in Grand hotel. He was born February 7, 1840 and died January 1, 1913 aged 72 years 10 months 24 days. Survived by four brothers, funeral at Morris Chapel Oaktown with burial beside church cemetery. Also Moses H Gregg of Haddon township died at home near Carlisle after months with bronchitis aged 73 years 3 months 9 days. survived by six brothers and services at Gregg home conducted by Rev S Reid, burial in Gregg cemetery.
F. M. Whittaker and his family returned home Tuesday after visiting relatives in St. Louis.
Mrs Mabelle Whitteker wife of Rev Elliott H Whitteker former pastor of the Carlisle Presbyterian church died after a illness that began with pneumonia last Friday. The family had moved to Greenup Illinois about a year ago where Rev Whitteker led the Greenup Presbyterian church.
C E Whipps of this city rushed to Greenup by auto and arrived around 11 80 oclock Sunday night but could not aid the victim who died at 11 50 after the doctor reached. Mrs Whittaker mourns the loss of her husband two sons Morris and Charles and an infant daughter. Remains sent to Cincinnati for burial Tuesday.
Just before press time the paper reports the death of Mrs. Pene lope Evans at her home northwest of Carlisle on Wednesday night. The cause was pneumonia of short duration. She is survived by her son Benjamin and daughter Mrs Evans of Billsboro Ohio. Burial arrangements follow.
The Misses Glenn and Merlie Shepherd entertained on North East Ledger wood street in honor of Mrs C T Ohaver of North Vernon. Guests included Mrs Frank Dobson of Clemson South Carolina and local residents. Postmaster A R Orr hosted a watch party above the post office with Forty two games and refreshments.
