Public hearing of the Carlisle Co-operative Telephone Company before the Public Service Commission is postponed due to lack of space. Carlisle notes the postponement affects filings and scheduling for the cooperative's regulatory review.
Eight deaths reported in Carlisle and vicinity over the past week amid a worsening influenza epidemic. Obituaries note Mrs. Icy Hollingsworth, wife of Alexander Hollingsworth, died February 18 after influenza and pneumonia, leaving seven children. funeral at Bethlehem M E church. Also Mrs. Lulu D. Hiatt, 27, died of pneumonia after influenza, at the Chicago Carlisle Coal Company mine home.
The Scheurer Brothers general merchandise stock was sold last Thursday to Michael Tauber Auction Company of Chicago through Samuel Wolfberg. Packing began Thursday and the stock was shipped to Chicago Saturday for auction, fixtures remaining with the owners. Original ownership traced to Harry T. Alumbaugh, then half shares to Russell B. Scheurer and B. B. Scheurer of St Louis. Russell Scheurer oversaw the business in Carlisle. The community laments the closure after three and a half years of success.
A county meeting of the Masonic Lodges convened with Sullivan and Carlisle lodges represented. Sullivan Lodge No 263 performed the Entered Apprentice degree and Merom the Fellow Craft degree. The Master Mason degree, planned by Carlisle Lodge No 3, was instead exemplified by Sullivan Lodge after a banquet. Carl Steffy received the Master Mason degree.
Sunday School at 9 30 a m with worship service at 10 30 a m followed by prayer meeting. The brief notice lists morning gatherings and a church program.
