Mrs. Eliza J. Davis died January 18 leaving a will dated May 12, 1897. W J Curtner named executor with $2000 bond. Estate valued at about 81,000 cash and 47 acres of land 24 miles south of Carlisle. Provisions include monuments, shawls to daughters, and life use of property to two daughters with remainder to their children.

Objections filed in Sullivan drainage remonstrance case
Silver Chaney of Sullivan Charles L Bond of Oaktown and Nora McClure of Vincennes filed remonstrances in the Sullivan circuit court against the final report of viewers in the Eli Marquett et al vs Nancy J Black et al drainage proceeding. They claim land overflow risk and asked that final report be rejected as unlawful and costly relative to benefits. Chaney says his land no longer fully benefits from the ditch and questions assessed benefits of 1000 while others receive similar relief. Bond and McClure echo similar objections and insist on lawful handling of costs damages and benefits.

Ora H. Benefiel as guardian petitions Sullivan circuit court to sell a 100 acre farm in Gill township west of town. Wards Wilber R. 14 and Roberta E. 9 hold undivided two ninths each. Mrs. Orson Willard owns two ninths. Benefiel owns three ninths. Four ninths valued at 2400 by Akin and Beasley. Guardian posts 5000 bond with Lismann and Ed Akin as sureties. Court orders private cash sale in ten days.

Will Build Switch for New 4800 Foot Passing Track
The E and T H announces a long passing track this spring to add switch room. The track begins near Carlisle Mill and Elevator plant and runs north to Ridgway crossing, a distance of 4800 feet. It will hold two long trains and use the east switch as a loading track.

Taken Suddenly: W D Latshaw Dies After Stroke
W D Latshaw prominent farmer of the township died Sunday morning two miles south of town from a stroke of apoplexy suffered Saturday noon while dining. Funeral Tuesday at his house with Rev Daniel Ryan. burial in Shepherd cemetery. He was born October 4, 1851, in Haddon Township and lived there all his life. He married Leona Lisman in 1885, had five children, and after her death remarried Cerena Webb. Survived by wife Cerena, five children Wiley Faye Walter Raymond Gilbert, and sister Sophronia Latshaw of Oaktown.

Surprise Party for Ed Akin Jr Honors Guests
A surprise party was staged Friday night at Ed Akin Jr home honoring his father Ed W Akin Sr with Mrs Ad Akin Sr alleged as an aiding participant. Guests played seven up cinch and euchre and enjoyed oyster soup cheese and coffee. Dr J B Whalen won first prize a deck of cards. Jim McConnell received a mini deck. Akin Sr got a playing card set.
