Local contractor French Willis sustained a serious wound Saturday at the Anthony Cafe when a broken plate glass window shattered while being removed. Willis and Jacob Wilson carried away the old glass. the injury to Willis’s right wrist severed tendons and his exact prognosis will unfold over time.
Crowds gathered near Farmersburg as threats of mob violence spurred sheriff deputies to move three accused attackers from Sullivan county jail to Jeffersonville reformatory. The men Martin Harris Russell Wiette and Cal Smith linked to a Dixie Bee line bridge crew near Farmersburg were arrested in Terre Haute and Farmersburg. Victims Mrs Ben Lane Miss Clara Lane and Mrs Glenn Milan were assaulted during Sunday night break in at the Lane and Moore homes. Smith confessed and fled through a window with the Moores’ sash while the mob action spurred removal to the reformatory.
The Knox and Sullivan County Light and Power Company of Carlisle Indiana seeks PSC approval to issue and sell 2500000 dollars of common stock and 50000 dollars of preferred stock to fund planned work. A public hearing will be held later. The new firm aims to build a high tension line from Freelandville to Oaktown Carlisle connecting with Indiana Power Company lines. Directors are Jefferson D. Boswell Murray Owen and Norman S McGillivray with McGillivray as president Owen as vice president Boswell as secretary treasurer. The company promises construction will begin promptly after permission is granted.
Notice states all persons with wheat deposits for flour at the Farmers Union Elevator will be cared for at the White and Wilkinson mill. The Farmers Union Elevator Co.
Miss Martha Arnett and Murray E. Coleman, former Carlisle residents, wed Sunday night in Indianapolis. Ceremony at 8 30 p m conducted by Rev E P Jewett at his West Drive home. Bride, daughter of Columbus and Mrs Arnett of Jefferson Township, works at Star department store. Groom, son of Mrs W F Bennett, works with Feibanks Morse Co Ltd in Indianapolis. They will reside in Indianapolis.
The Community Chautauqua will return next summer after 104 guarantors were secured by Superintendent Chas. E. Oxley before leaving Carlisle. Attendees praised the overall program though some acts were weaker, a common note in chautauqua lineups.
Miss Almeda Mengedoht of Freelandville visited relatives here last week, staying several days and returning home after a brief visit.
