Three Negroes Seized After Mob Push Removes Jail In Sullivan
Crowds gathered near Farmersburg as threats of mob violence spurred sheriff deputies to move three accused attackers from Sullivan county jail to Jeffersonville reformatory. The men Martin Harris Russell Wiette and Cal Smith linked to a Dixie Bee line bridge crew near Farmersburg were arrested in Terre Haute and Farmersburg. Victims Mrs Ben Lane Miss Clara Lane and Mrs Glenn Milan were assaulted during Sunday night break in at the Lane and Moore homes. Smith confessed and fled through a window with the Moores’ sash while the mob action spurred removal to the reformatory.
