Sullivan Man Sentenced to Penitentiary for Arson Case
William Benefiel of this city pled guilty to arson in circuit court and was sentenced to from two to twenty one years in the penitentiary and fined four hundred dollars. He fired James Hull's Elm Park residence and the Citizen's Mine stable during winter conflagrations, acting as a first on the scene and earning a reward suit of clothes. His father Lewis Benefiel is employed on the streets. Sullivan Times report.

Paxton School Closes After Strong Term
Paxton public school closed its term last Friday with closing exercises in all rooms. The year saw the building completed and used for most of the term, contributing to improved work. Teachers Prof. Joseph Jacy Minnie Robbins Phena Dean and Maude Robbins delivered excellent instruction as the term extended a few weeks longer than in the previous year.

During the upcoming term beginning May 2 and May 7, three murder cases are scheduled for trial. Walter Green of Vincennes faces a wife murder charge, Elmas Carter is charged in the murder of Joseph Orr of Sullivan, and Frank Landers of Dugger is charged with killing Charles Stewart of Dugger.
