A Sullivan grand jury adjourned last week returning 106 indictments. William A. Trigg faces four forgery counts tied to made notes 500 to National Bank Sullivan 318 to Sullivan State Bank and 500 to Citizens Trust Co. Forged names include Carl Spencer William H Brown Luke Squires. Cases against Roe Spencer and Trigg not to be tried this term.
The season opened last Friday afternoon at Speake's ball park with a nine inning match between the high school and town teams. The high school team won 9 to 6.
Charles Shepherd and wife from Vincennes spent Sunday with his parents Mr and Mrs Joseph Shepherd in their hometown area.
A. B. Laughead of Denver and Herman Jones operated a 500000 gallon per hour pump near the levee for ten days but halted due to fuel shortage. The larger 1000000 gallon per hour pump also stopped for the same reason. Laughead is W. H. Jones’s brother in law and will stay with him awhile.
Charles W. Welman spends a large amount of his money to back his run for Congress in the Second district. He features his Sullivan suburban home with farm animals and his Long Beach city domicile in a heavily illustrated piece, aiming to sway voters.
Christian churches host a week of prayer with nightly gatherings at 7 15. Leaders include Mrs J H Gilliland Mrs J F Alumbaugh Mrs Lon Wilson Rev H W Edwards tonight Miss Bessie Snapp and Mrs O J Steffy. Sunday services at 2 30 will be led by Mrs H W Edwards.
The News Office ordered $175 of extra equipment including an Advance paper cutter and border material last week. It will arrive soon and boost capacity to handle all cutting and trimming work. The job department is at full capacity, inviting patrons to request needed services.
