Trespass Arrest After disputed tenant claim
Wiley Whalen filed an affidavit before Squire Whipps charging Charles Pearce with trespass. Both men claim to have rented ten acres from Mrs. Anna Ridgway in the township. Pearce began plowing Monday. Whalen ordered him off. Pearce refused, was arrested Wednesday, entered not guilty, and posted a $50 bond for trial at 9:00 a.m. Friday April 15.

Death of German immigrant John C Schroeder at 82
Old Resident John C Schroeder died Thursday afternoon April 5 at his home one mile north of Freelandville Indiana. He was 82 and had lived near Freelandville since coming from Germany in 1648. A farmer by occupation, he leaves a widow two daughters seven sons including Fred Schroeder a Carlisle figure. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the German Evangelical church one mile east of Freelandville officiated by Rev Shultz.
