Jury verdict for Laura Anderson and a defense verdict in the alienation of affections suit filed by John Prose of Terre Haute against Elbert Anderson of Carlisle. Trial lasted about three hours with deliberations from 4:30 to 8:30 pm. Attorneys included A D Cutler, C D Hunt, Felix Blankenbaker, J W Lindley.
The Carlisle Town Board met in Cauble's law office and approved a contract with the township to build a joint high school at about $6,000. Treasurer Angel reported $418.76 on hand on April 1. Several claims were allowed including gas, salaries, and street work. some claims were tabled or rejected.
Train service via Terre Haute and Decker runs with four daily arrivals: No. 15 southbound at 7 14 a m, No. 2 northbound at 10 17 a m, No. 1 at 3 51 p m, and No. 14 northbound at 7 27 p m. All trains carry mail.
W. J. Curtner visited relatives in Paris Illinois Sunday and Monday. Misses Pearl Kerkhoff and Bernice Hume and Charles Kerkhoff and Walter Hume attended a class play at Fredlandville Friday night.
Elizabeth Kinsey of Mecca Ind formerly of Paxton and Haddon township died Wednesday evening at her brother George Kinsey's home. She ran a nation store in Paxton for years and wrote Baptist Principles. Survivors include three sisters and three brothers. funeral held at Paxton cemetery with Rev. Clive McGuire presiding.
Doretta Glenn infant daughter of Louis and Nora Owens died Thursday April 3 at about two weeks old. The obituary notes the child's brief life and loss, and extends sympathy to its parents as they mourn.
Railroad officials traveled by special train from Carlisle to Emison and Hazelton to view the Hazelton fill washout. The embankment has eroded into a deep 70 to 100 foot chasm, forcing temporary suspension of southbound traffic for weeks. Officials noted uncertainty on repair time and referenced the 1897 fill failure when a right of way change was contemplated.
Work on the damaged line near Clinton progressed enough to run trains from Terre Haute to Vincennes and back by Vincennes. Officials consider changing the right of way or building a steel trestle to replace the fill while temporary trestle across the Wabash at Clinton is prepared, restoring Chicago to Vincennes service via Terre Haute and Brazil soon.
Joe Schroeder and wife of Sullivan spent Sunday visiting relatives. George McCormick traveled from the Soldiers Home at Danville on furlough to stay a few days with his family.
