Miners Idle as Wage Talks Extend Across Regions
On April 1 workers marked the eight hour day and the old wage scale ended. Miners throughout the United States halted work pending new two year contracts. Negotiations continue in the Southwest Illinois and western Pennsylvania. Some regions expect quick settlement while others face financial hurdles. About 250 000 to 300 000 miners may remain idle until agreements are signed.

Woodville C. Wat sen v Jesse Shouse sought 19.05 for merchandise and was judged for 20.55. A second suit by Chas QO Alton against Shouse on a 100 note ended with 107.59 as judgment. Both plaintiffs were represented by Hamet D. Hinkle of Vincennes.

X Y Z Club Hosts Novel Promenade Evening in Carlisle
The X Y Z club of Carlisle entertained about 25 young ladies and as many gentlemen at Orr and Kivett halls on Thursday night from 8:30 to midnight. Guests guessed silhouettes of local professionals, enjoyed a three course luncheon, and ended with a north pole Cook and Peary themed trip. Trespass Case Heard in Squire Cowle's Court
In a Monday proceeding Squire Cowle ruled for the defendant Elmer Pifer in a trespass suit brought by tenant Andrew J. Fisher against landowner Mary A. Wolfe. Fisher claimed tenancy on land south of town. Wolfe contended the contract was void. Fisher’s counsel was Arthur D. Cutler. defense led by Hunt and Gambill of Sullivan.
