Elk and deer checked at five stations in a harvest season
A total of 767 elk and 1 051 deer were checked at five stations at Trail Creek Palisades Kep Crossing Fall Creek and Montpelier. Wilkins reported a good grouse season with several limits and a ruffled grouse lead the kill. Open roads and mild weather aided the harvest. Anglers report solid catches on the Blackfoot River above and below the reservoir as the general trout season runs to October 31.

Farmers Sign Up for Wheat Acreage Reserve in Caribou County
Thirty one farmers in Caribou County signed 1957 winter wheat Acreage Reserve agreements under the Soil Bank. Glenn Allen, county ASC chairman, said signups run through September 21. The program pays producers based on normal yield times a unit price of 1.05 per bushel, with amendments affecting spring and winter wheat allocations and signing deadlines. Final Rites Held Here For Former Resident Beus
Funeral services for Wilburn Buck Beus brother of Albert Beus and Iona Mikesell were held Monday in the LDS church. Beus died September 19 at Reno Nevada born October 14 1891 in Soda Springs Idaho a son of Louis P and Mary Terry Bells early pioneers to the area. The family came west with the Edward Ellsworth Handcart Co. and later moved to Montpelier and Soda Springs.

4 H Youth Invited To Fatten Calves
County agents seek both boys and girls to raise beef calves for next year with a October 12 contact. Early fattening aims for market readiness by fair time and a planned fat livestock sale. A grading committee will select calves after tallying interested stockmen, building toward a larger show and sale next fall. Community groups are encouraged to assist.
Plans Shaping Up For Boy Scout Fund Drive
Preliminary plans for the 1957 Boy Scout fund drive are underway with Pat Walker chairing the Initial Gifts Committee. Canvassing starts October 5 and a kick-off at the courthouse is set for 7 45 p m on October 8 to begin a 48 hour drive. A District Victory Dinner will follow on October 15 at Soda Springs LDS recreation hall, a potluck for drive workers from Chesterfield Bancrft Grace Soda Springs and surrounding areas.

Services Held For Prominent Grace Rancher Burton
Fred D. Burton a leading Grace rancher and church leader died Saturday in Soda Springs after a week of illness. Born September 1 1895 in Kaysville Utah he married Mildred Williams in 1919 and served as LDS missionary 1916 1918. He was Grace Second Ward Bishop 1938 144 and Bannock Stake Patriarch the same year. He sat on Grace School board for 15 years and worked for Utah Power and Light during plant construction. He and his family lived on the Burton farm since 1941 with his wife Mildred and mother Mary Bruce Burton surviving plus daughters Artem Allsop and Margaret Johnson.

Legion Talk Outlines Post Activities in Soda Springs
Lloyd Wignell American Legion field representative spoke at a Soda Springs no-host dinner about the legion’s role in community life. He cited leadership in Boy Scout work, sponsoring 4,000 troops nationwide, and Boys and Girls State as a key project. He urged posts to hire a service officer to aid veterans with benefits before Jan 1 1957. The Grace Bancroft and Soda Springs posts sponsored the meeting with George Dupin as emcee and a musical program.

Kids Day Attracts Over 600 Youngsters In Soda Springs
More than 600 youngsters from Caribou county gathered in Soda Springs on Saturday for Kiwanis sponsored Kids Day. A parade opened the event with costumes, decorated bicycles, pets, and dolls. Prizes included two bicycles plus free movies and races. Organizers John Cannan, Stanley Goodwin, and Sherry Rigby led efforts funded by peat put sales and merchant donations. Awards highlighted best decorated bicycles and costumes, with numerous families named in the results.
