Predict 1956 Farm Income at Present Level

Economists at the University of Idaho extension service say national farm price levels, costs, and incomes will stay near present levels through 1956. Cash receipts for the first quarter fell about five percent from a year earlier due to lower prices for farm products. Farm costs declined slightly with cheaper feed and feeder livestock. Net farm income is seen down seven percent in Q1, similar to the late 1955 trend. Professors Robert Wilcox and Virgil Kennedy project little change in the rest of 1956, with wheat supports down slightly but higher supports for milk and butterfat. Wool clip incentive remains the same amid spring pig crop cuts.
