The North Gem School District No. 149 board asks district property holders to approve a six mill levy for one year to fund two new buses. The current buses are aging and maintenance costs have risen, with safety concerns cited as a key reason for the election.
State Sen. Reed Budge will speak at the Soda Springs Chamber of Commerce today at the Trail Cafe. He will discuss the legislature's work. Mother's Day Mass scheduled at St. Mary's will be Sunday only, at 10:30 a.m., with no Saturday vigil.
George Kimball resigns as Soda Springs High School principal to take the superintendent post in the Mackay School District Idaho. He will start July 1 and thanks patrons students and administrators for six years of service.
Jeff Davis won the Opening Day Putting Tournament at Soda Springs Golf Course with 11 putts for 9 holes. Lloyd Matthews finished second with 14 putts and Wally Trum trailed in third with 15 putts.

The Soda Springs Cardettes earned second place in the large team division at the Idaho Falls Drill Team competition held April 30 and May 1. Kuna Steperettes took third, Highland Lassies won first, with Cardettes receiving a third trophy this year.
Ninety two students at Ricks College are invited to join the Phi Theta Kappa Rho Omicron chapter based on scholastic work from the prior year. Six year old Steven James Matte of Soda Springs lost his left hand when he tripped while his uncle Dana Bedingfield mowed a lawn at the Trail Motel. He received initial care locally and was later moved to Poca for further treatment and is reportedly recovering.
The Grace Parent Teacher Association will meet Friday May 14 at 8 00 pm at Grace High School. The session coincides with the Grace district budget hearing and election of officers.

Steve Lansberry of Soda Springs held his lead through the final weekend to become singles champion in the State Junior Bowling Tournament at Y-Dell and Rupert Bowl. Final standings are unofficial as coaches may file protests during the waiting period. Lansberry posted a 692 series for the senior boys division, while Marcia Workman of American Falls led the senior girls with a 688.
State Highway Engineer Tom Thomas announced highway 34 between Thatcher and Preston will shut each day from 8:00 am to 12 noon and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm for canyon area construction. Rex Darius of Hailey visited his brother Dr. Stanley Dorius and family for three days last week.
The Miss Caribou Pageant showcases fourteen county contestants at Soda Springs High School Auditorium at 7 30 pm on May 14 1972 with a Miss Caribou Tea earlier that afternoon at the Thirkul Elementary School Library. Contestants include Joslyn Hogan Patricia Jenkins Tamara Christensen Nancy Mabey Annette Michaelson Carla Stalker Pamela Nungesser Paula Christensen Leslie Lloyd Janet Nielsen Pauline Moore Shana Weaver Cynthia Haga Shauna Williams and others with various school affiliations and talents such as musical numbers dance piano solo sewing and public speaking.
Dr J H Waite reports the Grace School District has lost over 6500 this year due to student absences. State funds are allocated by average daily attendance, so each missed day reduces revenue and increases local tax burden. Thatcher Elementary, Grace Elementary, and Grace Junior High logged 673, 816, and 523 absences respectively, totaling 2763 days and a projected loss of 3777 dollars? The district urges parental cooperation and prior notice for absences to curb further losses.
The Canbon Memorial annual Membership Tea is set for Thursday May 13 at 1:30 pm in the Social Room of the Nursing Home. Mrs Sue Reagan and committee members urge all members and inviting friends to attend for a visit and refreshments.
