Smith Dies at Hospital in Soda Springs

Celia L. Smith 63 a Soda Springs resident died after a long illness at a Salt Lake hospital. Services set for 10 a.m. Friday at Union Mountain Mortuary in Nibley. Burial in Springs and graves will be held in Soda Springs. Born Sept 19 188? Parker Idaho daughter of Maria Smith married to Em Smith in Salt Lake City June 17 1908. Survived by husband G Heber Grace Mrs Florence Parrish brother Alma Wamp White Ore four children and two grandchildren.

District approves five mill school levy in special election

A large majority of voters backed a five mill addition to the 25 mills already approved, bringing the total to 30 mills for maintenance and operation in District No. 150. The bond levy adds five mills and a two mill plant facility levy to reach 37 mills, with Freedom Tyhee residents taxed at 32 mills. A building program focused on expanding Soda Springs High School is under study as enrollment climbs toward 50 to 60 in coming years.

Three Championships at Salmon Highlight Carol Hunter Riding

Carol Hunter, a 14 year old freshman from Soda Springs, earned 20 championships and 95 first place awards across shows in California, Utah, Idaho and Nevada. She was queen of the Pocatello rodeo and Tremonton Golden Spike Rodeo last year and previously crowned Idaho HAS queen. her family emphasizes sportsmanship and training while balancing school.

Fishing Season Opens With High Waters And Derby Winner

Opening weekend brought mixed fishing along Blackfoot and its creeks with some good catches at Lone Tree and below the government dam. Derby winner Owen Lau, 13, weighed 7 pounds 2 ounces. Blackfoot levels dropped to reveal better prospects for the weekend. Ledge Creek saw a children’s field day while restrictions limited access to those 13 and under.

Speeding and DUI Fines Set in Caribou Court

Wilford E Overgard of Little Creek Virginia was fined 23 dollars and costs after pleading guilty to speeding 75 mph in a 55 mph zone with State Patrolman Mark Wilson citing. Harvey L Benson of Grace was fined 103 dollars and costs with a one year license suspension after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated before Justice of the Peace William Maughan, Patrolman Wilson cited.

Accidents in Caribou County Involving Deer and Trailers

The Caribou County sheriff reports multiple accidents last week. A one car crash near Bancroft on June 5 involved William Johnson from Franklin Nebraska hitting a deer, with damage about 150 dollars. June 4 near Bancroft a Hudson sedan driven by Alva Dryden and a Dodge truck with a trailer, driven by Keith Lloyd, collided after Dryden tried to pass, damaging both vehicles by roughly 350 dollars. Deputy Bill Meccho investigated. Mrs. Carol Norris left Tuesday to visit relatives in Wellsville Utah until Friday.

County Agent 4-H Leader Training Camp and Grassland Tour Planned
