Myron, chairman of the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee, warns farmers there is little time left to dispose of excess wheat acreage. Eligible farmers must be in compliance with their farm's permitted acreage for harvest to receive price support, details sent to growers.
The community celebrated Pie Day and a large greens project with equipment from Morrison Knudsen and a large turnout. Caribou County commissioners met in regular session Monday. Bills were allowed and quarterly reports of officers approved.
Caribou County held a county wide Fourth of July celebration in Soda Springs with a large crowd, parade activities, and family oriented events led by the Blackburn Call American Legion Post. About 500 attendees joined a Lions Club breakfast from 7 to 9 am.
Edwin Smith's sawmill escaped extensive damage after a fire in the wood pile Tuesday afternoon. Stuart and Duane Beins spotted the blaze from the highway and alerted Smith, who called the fire department. The fire’s origin remains unknown.
Kiwanis plans a kids fish derby for July 21 with prizes and refreshments, and a stag picnic set for July 23. Special guest Floyd Thornber of Fulton, NY, attended. Don Beck led an impromptu program with two teams debating topics. winning team members were John Reeves, Doran Gillett, and others.
The Southern Idaho District Posse show gathers at Grace fairgrounds on Saturday July 20 with 150 plus horses. Poses from Pocatello Aberdeen Burley Rockland and Caribou County perform drills in two shows at 1:00 p m and 8:00 p m. Events include races barrel racing calf roping and chariot races. Caribou County Posse of Bancroft Soda Springs Grace sponsors the event led by President Frank Stoddard. Trophies and ribbons awarded winners eligible for state meet in Burley August 3.
Tenday Council Boy Scouts of America announces fund raiser dinners in Grace on July 11 and Soda Springs on July 13 to support a new stout camp on Yeaman Creek near Smoke River and a second camp site. Project valued at $200000 with A R Hopkins leading Soda Springs event at the Idaho cafe and Nate Black and Clarence Garrett as general cochairmen.
Caribou County announces a Red Cross supervised swim program starting Monday July 15 for Soda Springs Grace Bancroft and nearby areas. Bus pickup times for Grace 8 9 10 11 a m and 1 p m. Soda Springs boys 2 p m girls 8 12 years 3 p m girls over 12 4 p m. Bancroft 4 p m. Registration one dollar plus 25 cents pool admission.
Premium lists for the Ninth Caribou County Fair will go in the mail next week. Cecil Alldaffer, county extension agent, announced today. The books were printed in the Sun's commercial department and are being folded and stapled for delivery to the county agent's office this weekend.
Larry Swain topped Monsanto Chemical Co. prize for largest fish caught in June by Monsanto employees. His 10 lb dressed fish earned him the top award. He also won the Grace Business Men's Big Trout derby contest for last week.
The Pioneer Celebration plans a parade and program themed The Spirit of Progress led by Hatch with entrants allowed to reuse prize floats. Queen contest open to girls over fourteen in Bancroft and Chesterfield areas with judging by horsemanship. jeans and shirts acceptable. Schedule includes parade at 10:00 a.m. and program at 11:00 a.m. in Recreation Hall with Utah Pioneers overseeing the afternoon events.
Larry Lewis of Soda Springs and Bonnie Gibson were injured when their car left a county road north of Grace on July 5. Lewis dozed at the wheel, the vehicle hit an embankment, Bonnie broke a leg and Larry suffered facial cuts. Both were at home recovering. car damage was about 600 dollars. Sheriff Ralph Marriott investigated.
Gregory Toone aged 3, son of Mr and Mrs Floyd Toone of Grace, cut the tips off two fingers on his left hand when caught in an old lawn mower. Curtis, 7, was pulling the mower to put it away as they were told not to play with it. Gregory followed too close, was taken to Caribou County hospital where surgery was performed. he is now home and recovering.
