Excise Taxes To be Reduced On Telephone Calls
Idaho customers of Mountain States Telephone will save over 1.7 million dollars in 1966 as excise taxes on local and long distance service drop from 10 to 5 percent. A federal tax cut begun in 1966 and phased to zero by 1969 will lower bills further, with actual amounts varying by service and usage. Dell Watts, local manager, notes the new law repeals the tax on basic telephone service, a wartime measure born in 1941 to fund government revenues.
