Plans Set for Caribou Farm-Home Institute on March 3

Directors of Caribou County Farm Bureau and Extension Service finalize plans for a joint Farm-Home Institute at Grace High School on March 3. The program covers farm contracts, sprays, weed control, fertilizer types, water rights, and storage with expert speakers and a women's track including gardening, interior decorating, and a fashion show. Grace School Board Sets Districtwide Tax Meeting

A Grace school board and trustees meeting discussed taxes and finances. A special meeting for all taxpayers and parents is called for Monday evening February 27 at 8. In the north end the Grace elementary auditorium. in the south end the Thatcher school building. Everyone is invited.

Caribou County officials approve extensive improvements to the district court room at the county courthouse. Work is currently in progress following a recent commissioners meeting.

Certificates for Cancer Training Honor Longtime Workers

The 11th annual Idaho Chapter American Cancer Society training school in Pocatello closed with certificate presentations led by Phillip Dufford of Boise. Recipients include D. R. Cutler of Preston and Asael Tall of Rigby, each with about 15 years in cancer detection training, plus Caribou county volunteers receiving 10 year certificates. Five-year certificate winners include 91 others and a Caribou county group names Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Samson, Mrs. Roper, and others. A March ceremony is planned for local awards. Friday’s dinner and meeting in Pocatello was noted.

A large crowd watched Monsanto fall 107 to 83 to C. L. Electric after an early 11 to 0 surge by C. L. Al Karlin and Bill Wade led the winners with 23 points each while Monsanto’s top scorers were Jack Christensen 24 and Bill Nielsen 22. In the preliminary Lions lost to Kiwanis by one point amid odd plays and costumes as Lions coach Burke Horsley debuted a trick behind the basket and Kiwanis pressed their fast break to seal the win.

March of Dimes Auction and Raffle Raises Funds

The March of Dimes auction and raffle in Sede Springs netted $743 for the campaign. Local merchants and individuals donated items for the county shed sale that yielded $411 in raffle money, announced by campaign director Riwin Law.

Salk Tests Planned in Caribou County Idaho

Caribou County is one of four Idaho counties where the State Health Department will conduct Salk vaccine tests this spring. Dr. Allen Tigert, county physician, said a limited initial testing phase will be followed by broader antibody studies. Full plans await later announcement.

A large group of southeastern Idaho officials and guests witnessed the Caribou BPW Club receive its charter during a Saturday night ceremony. Fifty-one members joined the Idaho Federation of BPW clubs and the National Federation, with Faye Evans presiding. Caribou County Commissioners meet February 13 to approve the 1956 budget at 362609.40 with no changes from the tentative plan. The board also allocates 91650 for hospital operations and names Alice Smith of Thatcher to the fair board. They allow claims and call for bids on a 2 ton heavy dump truck for road and bridge work.

Potato Growers Meet February 29 at Grace High School

Caribou County potato seed growers are urged to attend a meeting hosted by the Idaho Crop Improvement Association at Grace High School Little Theatre on February 29 at 1 30 p m. Voters will decide on a new 50 cents per acre assessment to fund certified seed potato advertising. District VI is created including Garbon Bannock Bear Lake Oneida Franklin and Bear Lake counties. A district representative will be elected to participate in state meetings on regulatory changes. Jim Gregory Extension Potato Specialist will be on hand to answer questions.
