The Soda Springs merchants announce a Washingtons Birthday celebration sale this weekend with many values for shoppers. Check the special tabloid section for specials and plan to visit the stores.
The Soda Springs High School Cardettes drill team will leave Soda Springs about 8 a m Saturday for Blackfoot to compete in the Fifth District drill meet. That evening they perform a halftime show for the ISU Gonzaga basketball game in the Mini-Dome, their second Mini-Dome appearance this year.
Caribou Memorial Hospital Auxiliary named new president Mar jean Duren at the February monthly gathering. Boots, secretary, and Sue Reagan, treasurer, were also announced. Members noted hours served by diary participants and awarded pins. Dues are two dollars yearly. Farewell events honored Doris Lansberry and Alyson Lansberry with gifts and fond tributes.
Representatives of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers International and Local No. 2632 signed a two year labor contract with J. R. Simplot’s Minerals and Chemical Division. Court house to be closed all day Monday in Caribou County.
Idaho Fish and Game reports an emergency feeding plan in the Cedars area east of Soda Springs to aid wintering deer during critical stress. High protein pellets and hay have been provided for two weeks, with Albert Christman and Loyal Hopkins hosting the feeding site and storing supplies.
Idaho Stake Youth Chorus presents its 1972 Young Festival with the return of Soft Rain and new numbers The Weed Live Oak and The Light of Eternal Light. Young Artists from each ward will perform alongside the choral group. Admission is free.
Community concert schedulers list eligible ticket holders who will attend the next local concert on March 18 featuring Lola Montes and her Spanish Dancers at the Idaho State University venue in Pocatello. The notice notes concerts are planned across three communities beforehand.
Extension Council officers met Monday at the Education Building for upcoming sessions. President Deanné Moser of Caribou County Extension chairs the group.
Soda Springs residents Mr and Mrs Blynn Wilcox attend the third annual Idaho Traffic Coordinators Association convention in Boise. Chief Wilcox represents Soda Springs as he joins Tuesday and Wednesday sessions on Traffic Safety Your State and Local Problem themes.
The Caribou County Wool Pool held its annual meeting at the Cedar View on Monday February 7. A lamb dinner was served as members reviewed five years of wool core test results showing percent clean wool on samples from flocks with three or more bags. Donna Reedpeeser, district Make It With Wool winner, spoke about judging. Joe Holbrook, the pool president, announced 8 yards of 100 percent wool for the top 4H Senior Clothing Project winner in 1971.
The Grace Business Men’s association held a February luncheon meeting at Lou’s Cafe on Thursday February 10 at noon led by Nellie Johnson chairwoman. Minutes from the last meeting were read by Mrs Ivan Bortz. The group voted to close for Washington’s Birthday February 21 and discussed efforts to control credit abuse. Don Peterson announced Fred Van Vleet as business man of the year and presented the trophy. A request from Police Chief Herb Walters for drug abuse literature posters and equipment was tabled until March. Johnson was re-elected by acclamation. Directors named were Larry Allen Calvin Balch Howard Johnson and Doug Campbell. Federal funds for small businesses noted. Financial report and Christmas promotion tickets reviewed. About 35 certified seed potato growers meet in Caribou County to consider a proposed quarantine to shield a 2.5 to 3 million dollar seed potato industry from diseases such as Ring Rot and Corky Ring Spot. Public hearing planned in March. area restriction covers all of Caribou County with outside areas regulated.
The March of Dimes Committee presents a charity variety show at Soda Springs High School Auditorium on Wednesday February 23 at 8:00 p.m. Acts include Soda Pops Choir Bill Corbett Bob Summers The Royals Linda Anderson and more with piano solos comedy sketches and scenes from Lil Abner to raise funds for the house-to-house drive.
The Bancroft Lions Club sponsors a Winter Carnival and Snowmobile Races at a site one mile west of Bancroft. Events include Stock, Modified, Cross Country, and Powder Puff races with entry fees of five to ten dollars. Races start at 10:00 A.M. and details are continued on page 10.
The first loads of seed potatoes left Caribou County last week. A. and L. Trucking Co. hauled them to Blackfoot. Harold Varley of Grace started the spring shipping season hoping for steady profitable transport of Gem Valley's flagship crop.
Airman Stephen C. Lansberry son of Mr and Mrs James E Lansberry of Soda Springs has completed the U S Air Force weapons mechanic course at Lowry AFB Colorado and will report to Mountain Home AFB Idaho for duty with a Tactical Air Command unit providing combat air support. He is a 1971 Soda Springs High School graduate.
Congressman James A. McClure and Mrs. McClure stopped in Soda Springs Tuesday afternoon with Jack Holley, McClure for Senate field rep, meeting at the Caribou County committee chairman Leonard C. Kingsford office. They then planned a Montpelier appearance.
Camp Tosoiba of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers will meet Friday February 18 at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs Wilda Phelps in Soda Springs. All members urged to be present.
