Snow courses record higher than average moisture after January storms. Samson Ranch shows 12.9 inches water with 472 inches snow while Pebble Creek reports 11.9 inches water from 45.0 inches snow. SCS notes that one inch of water per acre in snow equals 27 152 gallons.
Idaho counties and cities shared in 916000 more Highway User Revenue in 1989 than the prior year, Senator Reed W. Budge said. Over ten million dollars went to counties and highway districts. cities received 1780000. Local distribution rose about 8 percent from 1968, with Caribou 188815, Bear Lake 117668, Franklin 1432. County and road districts took 25.5 percent and cities 4.5 percent. Budge lists Soda Springs 14049, Preston 14797, Montpelier 12789. Last year these cities had 12904, 18686, and 11829 respectively.
The Penny Parade for the Children's Hospital will start Monday February B. Primary teachers in local wards will solicit contributions while wearing identification badges. children will not be sent out for solicitations.

Randy McGrath a Mountain Home boy and 12 year old poster child for the Idaho Heart Association holds the proclamation signed by Governor Don Samuelson establishing February Heart Month and launching the 1970 Heart Fund Campaign. Randy had open heart surgery in September 1969 at St Luke's Hospital after four catheterizations and prior operations and doctors say he can resume football and swimming next summer with full activity possible due to advances in heart research.
On Sunday February 1 at Presbyterian Church in Pocatello Kendal Presbytery installed Rev. David Crawford pastor of Soda Springs Presbyterian Church as Moderator for a one year term. Attendees included Mrs Crawford and several local church members with Duane Rice and Dwayne Hamblin serving as Commissioner Elder.
Mrs Rosemary Hoffman Cari bou County Public Health Nurse completed an Instructor's Course in Red Cross Home Nursing in Pocatello January 1921. County residents desiring the Red Cross Home Nursing Course may contact Mrs Hoffman for more information.
In December the Motor Vehicle Division denied driver licenses to five first-time applicants. Director Jack F. Farley said 81 applications were received and checks with the National Driver Register showed five had no out-of-state licenses to surrender. For 1969 the division denied licenses to 99 of 1,527 first-time applicants.
Washington Congressman Orval Hansen nominated 21 Second District students for appointments to the Air Force Academy West Point Military Naval Academies. Naval candidate Thomas E Seamons is from Soda Springs. Air Force hopeful Douglas Johnson Jr also of Soda Springs. Military candidate Bryan Smith from Georgetown.
Idaho Fish and Game data show non residents received under two percent of controlled elk hunt permits in 1968 and 1969. In Caribou Soda Springs Montpelier and Pocatello units residents dominated draws with few or no nonresidents winning permits.
An NFO meeting is scheduled for Thursday February 5 at 7 30 p m in the Court House Soda Springs and a second gathering in Grace on Friday February 6 at 2 00 p m in the Elementary School Auditorium Members and non members are invited to attend these meetings.

Registrar J. Jeanne De Lorme announces 2041 Caldwell students named to the fall Dean's List at The College of Idaho. The top 47 with a 4.00 GPA include Kamian S. Allen of Soda Springs. others have GPAs between 3.25 and 4.00, including John W. Bingram of Soda Springs who is listed but not in the top 47.
Rocky Mountain Cutter Assn. plans for the World Championship races in Pocatello in March. One undefeated team and several lopsided records vie for four club spots. a consolation division is set for racers with three losses in the first five. Merlin Wilde and Dean Kunz posted fast times. benefit races Feb 7 raise funds for the Match of Dimes with Wilde vs Clark and a title shot against Kunz.
Three eastern Idaho water development projects new in a single bill seek General Fund loans totaling 1 410 800 from the Water Resource Board. Trail Creek leads at 585 000, with Georgetown and Soda Springs projects also financed after FHA and local bond issues falter. The act requires legislative approval for loans over 100 000 and declares an emergency. Mr and Mrs Ellis Watts visited in Pocatello to meet their new grandson born January 30 to Ronald and Shannon Watts.
