High School Basketball Seasons Start in Fifth District

Santa Claus Arrives in Soda Springs for Saturday Parade

Santa Claus will reach Soda Springs at 1:00 P.M. Saturday December 7 and appear on the Court House Lawn to greet children. Bring family and friends for holiday fun and shopping in town after the event.

Cattle Grub Control Tests Demonstration Scheduled

Roland W Portman and Dr Jam Bailey of the University of Idaho will conduct a cattle grub control demonstration at the Nelson Hogan Ranch in Chesterfield on December 10 at 2:00 pm. Fifty animals will be used to compare a Systematic Spray, a pill, an intramuscular injection, and a no treatment control to test three new insecticides from American Cyanamid and Chemaare. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Third Sees of Polio Shots Here Dec 12 13

Third polio shots will be given December 12 and 13 at area schools to complete the series started last February and March. Preschool children are to attend at scheduled times with Dr J E Wyatt and local Polio Foundation officials present to administer vaccines.

Local Hunter Involved in Accident Near Palisades

A hunting accident Sunday on Indian Creek eight miles east of Palisades involved Paul Allen of Soda Springs who accidentally shot Renell Weeks of Swan Valley in the calf. Weeks fell, with a 300 Savage bullet lodging between an overshoe and the left shoe of his cousin Steven Weeks. Renell Weeks fractured both leg bones and was taken to Sacred Heart hospital in Idaho Falls in serious condition but showed slight recovery.

Grace merchants announce Thursday evening hours until 8:00 p m through Christmas to help shoppers after dark. Santa Claus visits Grace on Saturday December 14 at 1 30 p m with treats for all local children during the appearance.

Wildlife Jamboree Set With Dinner And Program

Sportsmen prepare for the second annual Wildlife Jamboree on December 7 at the high school. Dinner from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria, with a top orchestra, wildlife film and exhibits on the program. Members receive a Wildlife Protective Association membership. Local business and volunteers assist in preparations.

Apprehension of Men in Penn Solves Robberies

Two men, Chester Brockman and Thomas Manny, escaped Butler county jail and were later arrested, clearing three local burglaries. A cash bag from the Grace Idaho First National Bank was found in their possession, tied to the Wes terburg store burglary on October 26 27 1957, with FBI noting further charges likely.

National Reclamation Association Pushes Law for State Irrigation Rights

The National Reclamation Association urged Congress to recognize state irrigation rights in federally sponsored projects The Idaho delegation led by William Holden of Idaho Falls and 129 others pushed for a bill to ensure state water laws apply to projects under the Reclamation Act and those under the commerce clause The Phoenix Bear River Compact Commission meeting also advanced regional water agreements in Idaho Utah and Wyoming.
