Ex-San Juan resident who inspired Ronald McDonald House dies
Kim Hill, a former San Juan Capistrano resident whose illness spurred the Ronald McDonald House movement, died Saturday at 43 after a 20 year battle with brain tumors. She grew up in San Juan Capistrano, ran cross country at Capistrano Valley High, and worked at a McDonald’s owned by her father Fred Hill. Survived by her son Andrew and sisters Kyle and Kristina, she helped rally support that led to the first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia in 1974. A memorial service is planned for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest.

San Juan Capistrano seeks eight million for parks
San Juan Capistrano plans to build a dog park and a skateboard park at the Sports Park on Camino del Avion. The City Council asked staff to seek about eight million dollars in state parks grants, split evenly between projects, from a statewide program with three hundred sixty eight million in available funds for underserved communities. The grant deadline is July 1, and last year the city was denied. The Northwest Open Space Phase 1 plan locates the facilities at the existing park with four soccer fields and two baseball fields.
